Alcohols and Solvents from BASF:
Application fields
BASF's broad product portfolio of "Alcohols and Solvents" is mainly used to manufacture coatings and paints. Our alcohols and oxygenated solvents are also used in applications such as detergents, pharmaceuticals, agrochemicals, lubricants, adhesives, personal care and cosmetics.
Alcohols and oxygenated solvents from BASF act as important and sometimes indispensable auxiliaries for virtually all coating systems. Their uses are complex: they ensure a high dissolution capacity for the coating components and ensure the gloss and flow of the paints. Optimum volatility can be adjusted through the specific mixing of various products.
Alcohols and oxygenated solvents from BASF are raw materials for different types of synthetical lubricants, such as polyalkylene glycols (PAG) or phosphate esters.
Oxygenated solvents from BASF are key components in many detergents thanks to their solvency power, especially for fats and oils. Their low toxicity, high environmental compatibility and good biodegradability are another reason for using them in household products. Generally, 1-3% of oxygenated solvents in the formulation is sufficient.
In the production of pharmaceuticals, our oxygenated solvents are typically used as extractants. They offer the low solubility required and at the same time provide high dissolution capacity for organic substances.
Our Alcohols and oxygenated solvents, such as C3-C5 alcohols or PO ethers, act as an agent for the formulation of crop protection products or they are used to produce insecticides or herbicides. Oxygenated solvents from BASF are also used as growing regulators in cultivation.
